Just As You Will Touch Others, Single-Channel HD Video, 2012
“Summer” is in full swing in San Francisco and big changes are afoot. First and foremost: Lia and I are moving to NYC! We pack the freight trailer on August 23rd and point the car East. The last four years in San Francisco have been amazing and life-changing in every way possible, but we’re both ready for something new and want to be closer to family. My heart is a swirl of excitement and sadness as we start this new chapter.
It always seems like things happen all at once and this time is no exception. Here’s a rundown of what’s taking place over the second half of July:
7/17 Within and Beyond the Frame, Los Angeles
7/20 – 7/21 Seminar, Brooklyn
7/25 CHATFACE, Facebook
Within and Beyond the Frame
Bar Lubitsch, Los Angeles
July 17th, 8pm
“The series takes its name from Daniel Buren’s iconic conceptual artwork Within and Beyond the Frame. In this context, this series of exhibitions focuses on the mediums of video, film, and performance, which also function as the core of Los Angeles’ entertainment and culture industry. However these performances and film screenings seek to exhibit works which distinctly differentiate themselves from the formulaic nature of ‘Hollywood’ film and theatre.”
Curated by Dane Jensen, this is the first iteration of the series. Unfortunately, I will not be attending as I’ll be in Brooklyn working on Seminar. I love the premise of this series and wish I could be there. Check it out and let me know how it is!
Seminar, a project by Clifford Owens, brings ten artists together for a week-long intensive workshop. The project culminates in two evenings of individual, site-specific performances. If you are in the NYC area, I would love to see you either night!
“CHATFACE is an experimental art talkshow by Stephanie Syjuco hosted on the Facebook page of Chloë Flores, a conceptual platform disguised as a Facebook personality. Friend Chloë Flores on Facebook to get full access to the real-time chats.”
I will be a guest “CHANNEL-Broadcaster” for 24 hours, posting content under the working title of Unintended Audiences. Tune in, It’s going to be fun!.
Also, from the same blog, a quick overview of the Exhibition:
White Boys, curated by Hank Willis Thomas & Natasha L. Logan;
I will be in attendance for the opening, so if you are in the greater Philadelphia area, come on out!

Opening: 5:30 – 7:30pm, Friday, March 22nd

Maine Art New
I also found out that my photography will be included in the forthcoming book, Maine Art New, which is a follow up to the 1990 survey book, Maine Art Now. This is my first inclusion in a book not associated with a show, and I’m honored to be representing my state. Maine Art New is being released through the University of Maine Press. When I know the release date I’ll pass it on.
